Taking stock of your relationships is never a bad idea, so why not do it in February when love’s already on your mind?
As an entrepreneur, a leader, and someone on the fast track to success, your relationships may be one of the first things to fall from the top of your list of priorities. They call it unconditional love for a reason, right? Before you know it, your connections can become strained and distant–and no six figure salary is worth that.
This month’s guest feature is Christine Chang, an author, speaker, and relationship expert for high performing women. We asked Christine the question that’s on every wedding photographer’s mind as spring is on the horizon: How can you prioritize your relationships when work gets hectic and busy season takes no prisoners?
Here’s what Christine had to share:
“If you imagine yourself laying on your deathbed, what would you be thinking about? Most likely it’s not "Thank GOD I got published in Vogue.”
Instead, we’d lay there and think about our personal relationships. Our families, partners, and friendships. People make time for what is important to them. You may say your spouse is important to you, but how do you make them a priority? If you've been together a long time, you know you've got them, so what's the big deal about treating them second to your career? It's only temporary until you get ahead, right?
Consider this: Imagine you’re never going to see someone again. Poof. Gone. What would you do or what would you say if you knew you were never going to see them again?
Whatever came to mind–that’s what you should be doing.
At the end of the day, it takes just ten seconds to be present and connect with someone.
"I appreciate you."
"I'm sorry."
"You are important to me."
Make it meaningful, thoughtful, sincere, and with the same care you would put into a thank you package for a client (except this is way more important).”
